Any opinions on how effective SEO’s are and if the prices are worth its reputation?

For example, the cost for SEO and maintenance for 3 keywords is $500 setup fee and $200 annual maintenance. For 20 keywords, it is $2,300 setup fee and $1,000 annual maintenance.

I know some SEO’s go as expensive s $25,000 – $100,000.

Internet marketing SEO has often proved itself to be the key that transforms little websites into profit belching monsters, and thats the truth….ive seen it happen with my own eyes. I admit that internet marketing seo isnt exactly simple but its not that difficult of a task for someone who knows and understands how search engines and their ranking rules work. With this understanding they can then present their website to the search engines in such away that they can not help but list you. After all its their rules, so if you play by them success will follow. The fact is that internet marketing seo is an almost magic way of long term financial succcess. Get it right and bingo!

The tools and methods avaliable to anyone that knows there stuff is almost endless, including some unusual ones. Maybe you have heard of the links development strategy? With this a site can gain top rankings without the use of keyword optimization. Some of these techniques will bring you results within a few short days!

It may suprise you to hear that it dosen’t even matter what type of site you have. It is no longer necessary to have a huge mega site. There are people out there (including me) that simply promote a single page affiliate program that brings in 6 figure monthly incomes. Lots of sites these days earn a healthy income from the use of Google Adsense . In fact for many sites, this is their most lucrative source of revenue. None of this however is possible without the necesarry traffic.

This brings use back to Internet marketing SEO. Its VITAL for online sucess…..fact! Without it you can not hope to do better than average, and who the heck wants to be average? Not me….how about you?

Most new webmasters think that by building a website, they will get traffic automatically. Unfortunately, that is not true online. The saying â??build it and they will comeâ? does not hold true in the online world.

One of the ways to get targeted traffic is to position your website high in the search engines for the keyword you are targeting. It is called SEO or search engine optimization.

Although there are many SEO companies that can help you do this, it would be best to learn how to do it yourself first. Most people tend to make SEO more complicated than it really is and they are many SEO myths and legends around if you browse some of the more popular SEO forums.

The first step in SEO is to determine the base keyword of your website and then get a SEO keyword tool. There are many such tools available online. Some are desktop tools while others are online services. Most require a payment or monthly subscription fee however, there are a few good SEO keyword tools that are free.

One such tool is the Google keyword tool. This tool is provided for adwords advertisers but it can still be used for SEO purposes. Simply enter the keyword and google will show you the monthly search volume as well as the related keyword phrases.

You can also see the cost per price for that keyword as well as google trends for their keyword. You can use this tool to give you ideas for hundred of other keyword phrases that people are searching for which are related to your website.

The only disadvantage of the Google keyword tool is that it does not tell you how competitive that keyword is.

Another SEO keyword tool that does that is wordtracker. Wordtracker is quite a popular keyword search tool that has over 40 million keywords in its database. It is similar to Google keyword tool except it does tell you know how competitive a keyword is, however their keyword database does not come from google but from meta search engines such as metacrawler.

While they are some arguments about the accuracy of their database since almost no one today uses meta search engines, it is in my opinion still a good point of reference.

Who Should Read This Book

This is a book to read if you want to take your knowledge of website optimization above just about everyone else out there.

Website Optimization is not a book for an internet novice.

It is for website designers with knowledge of how a website should be designed and who want to improve the speed of their website.

It also targets website marketers who are interested in finding ways to improve their conversion rates.

Finally, it is for project and business managers who may not know all the ins and outs of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) but are at least familiar with the concepts and already understand their value.

I recommend you read this book if you:

Already have a website,
Work closely on one,
Have any responsibility or interest in improving online results

Website Optimization gives you information you can use.

The book is in 2 parts.

Part 1 – Search Engine Marketing Optimization

The first part is “Search Engine Marketing Optimization”. This explains how to increase website visibility and boost conversion rates.

King clearly explains the steps you need to improve natural SEO. A major part of natural SEO is using your keywords in the most effective manner.

King breaks natural SEO into 10 easy to follow steps that can be posted next to your computer as a to-do list for each page that you create.
Pay Per Click

This section also includes two very descriptive and very useful chapters on Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. It includes a wonderful case study showing the results of one company in a small, competitive niche market that changed their PPC practices and had an immediate 100% improvement in their conversion. This conversion rate increased to 600% a short time later and eventually leveled off at 500% over their starting conversion rate.

These two chapters alone will make Website Optimization worthwhile for most readers.
Conversion Rate Optimization

The final part of the first section of Website Optimization covers Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).

King lists the top ten factors a site owner must know to maximize his conversion rate.

For a marketing expert, these 10 factors might be obvious. But all too often several, or at least one, of these factors are ignored or not given full consideration,

For example, you should give the most important content on your website the best placement on your website. Since readers begin scanning a page at the top left and consider the bottom right to be the least important, the most important content must be at the top left.

Many readers now associate the right side of a website to be associated with advertisements, so this area is best for testimonials or links to your products.

Again, for many readers, this chapter alone can dramatically increase conversion rates and is worth the cost of the book.

Part 2 – Website Performance Optimization

Part two of Website Optimization is about “Website Performance Optimization”.

Website performance is how to design your website at the early stages to deliver content as quickly and efficiently as possible.

A page that takes 10 seconds to load is one that your readers will not see. Readers will use their ‘back’ button and move on to your competition if your pages do not load fast enough.

King includes some tricks to combat this, such as using the best format for images and placing your slower loading pieces lower on your page and initially out of sight if possible. This gives your reader a better experience and increases the chance that he will remain on your site.

Let’s face it. Keeping people on your site increases the possibility of making a sale.
CSS Optimization And Ajax Optimization

Part two also as two chapters that are more complex and aimed at website designers.

These are two chapters are on CSS Optimization and Ajax Optimization. They cover optimizing the programming code to speed up your websites loading time. These chapters may be too difficult for a nonprogrammer to understand fully.

However, understanding the ideas, if not the actual practices, will help you decide if you need to work with a programmer to modify your site to deliver better performance. Website Optimization is often a team effort. This knowledge is useful for all team members.

From personal experience, I can say that you do not need to be an expert in CSS to put in some of the code. I am in the nonprogrammer category. Of course, I had an initial learning curve when first faced with HTML and CSS, but now I know the effort was well worth it.

In fact, when I first started using CSS on my website I did not even know I was using it. It was just a little bit of code I used to make my site look better.

Website Metrics

The final chapter covers website metrics. There is an old saying that “you can’t manage what you don’t measure”.

King divides metrics into four distinct groups:

Volume – how many visitors, how many page views, how many downloads and so on.
Content – helps understand how readers respond to presentation, layout and the persuasiveness of your pages.
Objectives – are the readers doing what you want? Buying, signing up, commenting, voting or other objectives.
Means – this is directly marketing. The paths the reader follows into, and away from your objectives.

As a marketer this is the section I hooked onto first.

Although not mentioned in Website Optimization, the two tools I use to measure metrics are Google Analytics and woopra. Both of these has its own strong points. And of course, there are many other tools to choose from.

Website Optimization gave me further insight into how I can use metrics to improve my own results.

For Serious Website Contenders

On top of King’s 15 years of experience, which comes through in his own book, King also references all the other books, studies and websites where he gathered information or verified his personal findings.

This is very useful information. It gives you the places to go for more in-depth information on any particular subject that interests you. A great bonus.

Anyone who takes website optimization seriously, and is committed to improving online results, should read Andy King’s Website Optimization.

It is not a lazy afternoon read. It delivers a bit more than thought provoking entertainment. You can, however, easily read this book section by section in the order they interest you.

This book has brought my own website optimization skills up several notches.

It is extremely useful. And it provides a depth of information I have not found in any other book.

In addition, it is a great reference tool to keep handy, with bullet point action lists and how-to guides to solve specific problems. My copy now sits in my “one meter away from me” personal reference section. Website Optimization is one book that has definitely earned its place in this group.

And yes, I have already recommended a close friend to read it.

Search engine optimization today is different from a couple of years ago, even six months ago!

Finding the right SEO tools and resources can be challenging. It’s like trying to hit a constantly moving target in the dark. One of the ways to make it easier for webmasters is utilizing online forums and groups. Not only do these groups stay up on the latest happenings with SEO but they also are less intimidating to be a part of than in the past.

The first rule in joining any new SEO group or forum is “Go Slow.” Whether you are a newbie or an experienced user, take it easy the first week or so. Be cautious not to offend anyone. Why? Because marketing and having a business on the internet is all about relationships. At some unknown time you may cross paths with these people, need JV partners or flat out just need help and advice. Good manners and politeness will get you remembered and helped fast.

After this first hard and fast rule, here’s a few more pointers for any SEO group or forum:

1. Always use the “search” option first.
More than likely, your question has been answered. Check the archives and posts first. If you can’t find it then, post your question.

2. Never spam your forum.
It’s “OK” to have a signature for your site or product but spam posts to your forum about your product or opportunity will not only get you banned it will get you ignored.

3. Stay within topic.
If there is something that you would like to discuss that was inspired by a post on another topic, post a new topic in the appropriate section. Posting off topic, especially after a warning will get you banned.

4. Never “bump” your thread.
“Bumping” is when you reply to your own post
in hopes of getting a response sooner. The only time that this is acceptable is if your thread has laid dormant for about a week. Bumped threads are very annoying to most forum users. Bumping posts on a regular basis will probably lead to a lack of interest in your posts and will probably contribute to a lack of support in your ventures.

5. Contribute to the community.
Many forums now include “games” which are occasionally fun. Saty light and funny with them
and you may be surprised at the postive outcome.

There are membership as well as free-to-join groups and forums. Do your research before signing up for money based membership sites. Most are good but if you’re going to pay make sure it’s a good fit for you prior to putting up any dues. Poke around the posts, see if you find the content valuable and then join.

As for finding SEO groups, any of the search engines will pop up more than enough links by typing in
either “SEO groups” or “SEO forums.” Some of the largest free forums and groups can be found with Google at “Google Groups” (groups.google.com) and Yahoo (groups.yahoo.com).

Either of these sources will provide you with a pretty substantial list. Remember, regular search engine listings seem to apply here so generally you will see the best results towards the top of the listing.

There are several forums out there on the web that focus on SEO, and you can learn a lot from all of them, even if some of the discussions are over your head at first. Even ordinary searchers can learn a lot from following these discussions, as they tell you a lot about how search engines work.
